(This reading is based on Proverbs 8 and is read in accordance with the Revived by His Word initiative of the General Conference of SDAs.)
"All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; nothing crooked or perverse is in them." Prov. 8: 8
The problem of echoing the obscenities of the "foul" among us is sadly a problem, not only with journalists the world over, but with some of us as church members as well. It is often from a judgmental, condescending perspective that we seek to paint the most graphic picture of the person who image it is our purpose to reduce. These utterances are often made on a basis of being "concerned." Often in these circumstances we sometimes repeat verbatim what was allegedly said, or what we heard was said. Sometimes it's a horrible tale that is going around that we help in propelling along.
As Christians there are just some things that should not be dignified with being viewed, listened to, let alone repeating. The old nursery rhyme or whatever it may be called of the three little monkeys who were "See no Evil, Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil" respectively, are at least at face value worth bearing in mind. For if indeed we could be sworn to living by such a code, we'd probably find more time to spend promoting the Kingdom of God.
So Father in Heaven this morning we join with the song writer in saying, "Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee...." Listen to a beautiful rendition by Bobby Michaels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...
