Is your marriage on paper only?

I love to attend weddings and I am always fascinated at the end of the ceremony when the pastor says 'You may kiss the bride' and pronounces the couple man and wife. At this time the pastor usually gives the couple a piece of paper (the unofficial marriage certificate) which will be used to secure permanent papers. This piece of paper is very important as it is the official government document which the couple will use to conduct official business. They will also use this paper as proof of marriage.
The sad thing though, is that some couples care more about the piece of paper than about the marriage itself, as over time they kill their relationships. Sometimes too, all they have left of the marriage is this one piece of paper. When this unfortunate occurrence takes place people usually say that the marriage is in paper only.
