Waking Up at My Post of Duty: 1 Chronicles 20 (RBHW)

“But David stayed at Jerusalem.” 1 Chron. 20: 1 (excerpt)

Rarely, if ever, does sin come as a "one piece meal;" it comes in bundles, though always with "simple, non-threatening innocence" at first.  But left to run its course unchecked, it will leave a trail of tragedy and extreme trauma. We must always be alert for the first signs.

One certain sign of impending doom it the absence from ones post of duty. The Devil will always find work for idle hands. What would be likelihood of seeing Bathsheba had David gone to war? But the issue is not just being at war, because we are well acquainted with many a sad tale of atrocities of war; it is about having a mind that stays engaged with God - whatever the setting.
So get this, the unvarying post of duty of all Christians is to keep the mind stayed on Jesus – therein does our safety lie.  “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace (free from the entanglement of sin), whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isa. 26: 3.  What an amazing thought if each day we were to wake up at our post of duty!

An appropriate song that captures the essence of this thought is
I woke up this morning with my mind
 (Hallelujah)
 stayed on Jesus
Woke up this morning with my mind
 stayed on Jesus
Woke up this morning with my mind
 (Hallelujah)
 stayed on Jesus
 Hallelu
 (Halle)
 hallelu
 (halle)
 Hallelujah.
